Cho had developed an interest in Martial Arts at a very young age. During the 70's and up to the early 90's, crime was a common occurrence in New York City and Cho became a victim of three mugging attempts by the time he was 17 years old. Learning self-defense eventually became a necessity, but unfortunately his parents were extremely protective and he knew that they would forbid him from studying. He secretly began to look for a school after he turned 18 years old, keeping the information secret from them. He soon found that many of the schools he visited trained their students to compete at Karate point tournaments and placed no emphasis on practical self-defense. In December 1993, his search eventually led him to a Wing Chun Kung-Fu school headed by Sifu Michael Militano, a direct student under the renowned Wing Chun Grandmaster, Sigung Jason Lau. At age 19, he joined the school and became a student of Sifu Militano.
After years of demonstrating his diligence and commitment, Sifu Militano selected him to become a disciple. After becoming a disciple, he continued his training and learned the more advanced aspects of the Wing Chun system. Eventually, he was awarded the rank of Assistant Instructor and began to help teach in the school.
In 2012, after 20 years of consistant training and serving as one of his assistant instructors for over 15 years, while running most of his classes, he was eventually told to establish his own school. It was also that same year his Sigung gave Cho his blessings to teach Wing Chun to the next generation of the Lau Wai Wing Chun family.
Cho has also had been given permission and the privilege to train under his Sigung, Grandmaster Jason Lau, and his Sisook, Sifu Chris Burke, (the current Dai-Sihing and number one top student under Grandmaster Lau), during his many trips to Atlanta, GA. It was here where he received further refinement and training on his Wing Chun skills and understanding. He is truly honored and grateful for the friendship and support of these great teachers.
In addition to Wing Chun, Cho has trained in other Martial Arts. A perpetual student, he continued to expand on his foundations by studying other martial arts, such as Muay Thai under Coach Levi at Evolution MT in NYC, and Machado BJJ briefly under Marcos Santos.
To extend beyond his understanding of Wing Chun, he has taken and completed several firearm courses at the Private Military Company, Academi, in Moyock, North Carolina as well as in Sig Sauer's Academy, in Epping, NH. It was here where he was trained to apply the principle of economy of movement, one of Wing Chun's core concepts, during the various firearm manipulation exercises. It was here where he learn to shoot with speed and accuracy to improve his shot placement, while doing tactical / emergency magazine reloads, dealing with recoil management, shooting from the low, high, modified low ready position. He also trained to sight and shoot multiple targets, while moving in and out of positions, as well as shooting on the move. It was during this training where he learned to further develop his situational awareness, all under a stressful, but controlled environment.
Aside from Martial Arts, Cho is a Certified Personal Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and has both the Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) and Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) certifications. He also holds the Functional Trainer Specialist Certification with the American Council on Exercise (ACE).
He has trained clients at both Ballys Total Fitness and at Work Train Fight in Noho, NYC.
